BILL Belichick has accepted his latest head coaching job, but Jimmy Johnson thinks there is something fishy about it.
Belichick is the greatest NFL coach of all time, but it seems like he may never coach in the league again.
Instead, the former New England Patriots head coach is moving to college football where he will be coaching North Carolina in the ACC.
It’s cool to see Belichick making such a drastic move, but Jimmy Johnson wants to know why no NFL teams were interested in him.
“Don’t you think it’s strange the greatest coach in NFL history is not in the league,” Johnson said.
“He was available last year and no one offered him a job. There was no guarantee he was gonna get a job this year.
“Now of all the coaches I’ve ever known, he loves coaching football. He loves putting together an organization and a team.
“North Carolina gave him that opportunity. He’s able to bring his people in, very little interference, and then on top of that I think he’s happy doing it.
“He’s gonna be there for a long time.”
Belichick seems excited about his move into college football, and detailed it in a statement after his hiring.
“I am excited for the opportunity at UNC-Chapel Hill,” Belichick said in a statement.
“I grew up around college football with my dad and treasured those times.
“I have always wanted to coach in college and now I look forward to building the football program in Chapel Hill.”
Belichick has won eight Super Bowls across his coaching career, but now he is looking to add a national championship to that resume.
“This is an exciting day for Carolina football and our University,” UNC chancellor Lee H. Roberts said.
“Carolina is committed to excellence and to creating an opportunity to succeed in everything we do, from the classroom to the field of competition.
“I know after speaking with Coach Belichick that he shares that commitment.
