The rain-hit IND vs AUS 3rd Test began with the hosts batting first. Centuries from Travis Head and Steve Smith steered Australia to a mammoth 445-run total in the 1st innings, putting India on the back foot. In fact, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss was heavily criticised by former cricketers.

In response, India‘s top-order continued to falter in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, with the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant failing to fire at the Gabba. Skipper Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul stay unbeaten at the end of Day 3 as a frustrating day came to an early end, thanks to rain. Should this contest be washed out, given that there is 90% chance of rain with a forecast for a storm on Day 5, then India have no choice but to win the remaining two matches in order to fancy their chances of punching a ticket to Lord’s in 2025.
