On Monday, Huawei Technologies announced that it has officially opened pre-orders for its Mate 70 smartphone model through a post on its WeChat account. The company also revealed plans to host a launch event for the Mate brand on November 26, where it is expected to showcase its latest lineup of smartphones.
Customers can now reserve the Mate 70 and its two pro variants in Huawei's online store without needing to place a deposit, although the website has not provided any pricing details. Interest in these devices appears to be high, with reports of long queues forming outside various Huawei stores as eager customers flock to see the new models ahead of the official unveiling.
Last year, Huawei made its return to the 5G premium smartphone market with the Mate 60 series, which features semiconductors manufactured domestically. These phones have been celebrated in China as a significant achievement in overcoming U.S. sanctions that have restricted the company's access to advanced chips and technologies since 2019.
In a remarkable show of demand, pre-orders for the Mate 70 series exceeded 1 million units within the first hour of opening. Customers have expressed their enthusiasm, with many noting the crowds at physical stores, where some locations reportedly recorded 300,000 reservations in just a few minutes. This surge in interest mirrors previous launches, such as those for the Mate 50 and Mate 60 models, but this time, the lines were forming days prior to the official launch.
Consumers who reserve the Mate 70 offline will receive priority for shipping, allowing them to be among the first to obtain the device after its release. However, questions remain about whether Huawei can meet the anticipated demand and deliver all reserved models on time.
The Mate 70 is expected to feature significant technological upgrades over its predecessors, positioning it to compete aggressively in the smartphone market with formidable capabilities.
