Quincy Jones, producer and entertainment powerhouse, passed away aged 91

Quincy Jones, the legendary producer and entertainment powerhouse, passed away at the age of 91. His death marks a profound loss for the music industry and the broader world of entertainment . Jones was renowned for his remarkable contributions to music as a producer, composer, and arranger. Over his illustrious career, he produced iconic albums for artists such as Michael Jackson and Frank Sinatra, solidifying his status as one of the most influential figures in contemporary music history .

Jones’ publicist, Arnold Robinson, said he died on Sunday night at his home in the Bel Air section of Los Angeles, surrounded by his family.

“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing,” the family said in a statement. “And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.”

    Jones was arguably the most versatile pop cultural figure of the 20th century, perhaps best known for producing the albums Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad for Michael Jackson in the 1980s, which made the singer the biggest pop star of all time. Jones also produced music for Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, Donna Summer and many others.

    In a phenomenal career that spanned more than 60 years, Jones produced Michael Jackson’s best-selling albums Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad; obtained the rights to the novel The Color Purple, cast a young Oprah Winfrey in the Steven Spielberg 1985 film adaptation and received three Oscar nominations for his work; helmed the historic recording sessions for the 1985 charity single “We Are the World,” the best-selling single of all time; and produced Lesley Gore’s 1963 chart-topping hit “It’s My Party.”

    One the film The Wiz, Jones found himself working alongside a 19-year-old Michael Jackson.

    The pair worked together for decades and Jones produced albums Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad.

    Along with Rashida, Jones is survived by daughters Jolie Jones Levine, Rachel Jones, Martina Jones, Kidada Jones and Kenya Kinski-Jones; son Quincy Jones III; brother Richard Jones and sisters Theresa Frank and Margie Jay.
