Arnel Pineda, the lead singer of the iconic rock band Journey, has recently encouraged fans to vote him out "for good" following criticism of his performance at the Rock in Rio festival. This unusual ca among fans regarding his vocal capabilities and stage presence, which have been scrutinized during recent performances. Pineda’s candidness reflects an awareness of the pressures faced by artists in high-profile settings, especially when their performances are subject to public scrutiny.
Journey frontman Arnel Pineda had a rough outing at this year’s Rock in Rio event, and in 2024 that kind of thing can take off on social media.
And, unfortunately for Pineda, that’s exactly what happened. Per LOUDER, Pineda noticed, sharing a video that “appears to show him struggling” and accusing him of “several vocal failures.”
In a post, Pineda acknowledged seeing a video circulated where he had issues with his ear monitors and struggled to hit the right notes during the performance in Rio de Janeiro.
"No one more than me in this world feels so devastated about this… it's really amazing how 1 thousand right things you have done will be forgotten just cause of THIS..and of all the place, its in Rock In Rio…," he wrote. "mentally and emotionally, I've suffered already, and I'm still suffering ..but I’ll be OK...."
After sharing "immense gratitude, humility and honor" with fans for attending Journey's shows this year, he offered to walk away from the band if they voted for him to do so.
“But I’ll be OK,” he added. “So here’s the deal here now. I am offering you a chance now (especially those who’ve hated me and never liked me from the very beginning) to simply text GO or STAY right here. And if GO reaches one million. I’m stepping out for good. Are you game, folks? Let’s start…”
After a messy legal dispute, longtime members Jonathan Cain and Neal Schon appeared to finally make progress in patching things up in late August, reaching an agreement regarding the management of their shared business subsidiary. As previously reported, Cain sued Schon for mismanaging the business and overspending at the band’s expense — all this coming while Cain and Schon were actively sharing the stage for Journey’s now-wrapped summer North American tour with Def Leppard.
