Representative Anthony D'Esposito's employment decisions have prompted scrutiny regarding ethical standards within congressional practices. Allegations indicate that he hired both his mistress, Devin Faas, and his fiancée's daughter for taxpayer-funded positions in his congressional office. Faas reportedly received a salary of $2,000 per month, while the fiancée’s daughter earned $3,800 monthly . These actions raise significant concerns about nepotism and the potential violation of House ethics rules designed to prevent conflicts of interest and corruption.
Rep. D’Esposito released a statement, saying, “The latest political tabloid garbage being peddled by ‘The New York Times’ is nothing more than a slimy, partisan ‘hit piece’ designed to distract Long Islanders from Democrats’ failing record on border security, the economy and foreign policy. My personal life has never interfered with my ability to deliver results for New York’s Fourth District, and I have upheld the highest ethical standards of personal conduct. Voters deserve better than the Times’ gutter politics.”
Nassau County Republican Party Chairman Joseph Cairo wrote, "Nassau residents are too smart to fall for the New York Times' politically motivated and baseless mud-slinging, which has been heaped in the direction of a respected Member of Congress. Indeed, Congressman Anthony D'Esposito refuses to be distracted from his mission of fixing the border crisis and providing real tax relief for Long Islanders. Meanwhile, his opponent proposed hiking town taxes, and she was the only vote against a Hempstead Town tax cut. No wonder voters who want lower taxes and safer communities support Anthony D'Esposito for Congress."
DailyMail.com reached out to the congressman's office by phone and email for comment but did not immediately hear back.
A spokesperson for the congressman did not deny the affair declined to comment on the employment of the women.
'We do not comment on personnel matters,' Matt Capp said.
He stated the congressman 'remains focused on fighting for real issues that impact Long Islanders, like securing our borders and ending the affordability crisis.'
D’Espostito was one of the many members who called on Santos to resign prior to his expulsion.
He said that the committee’s report was “in alignment with my long-held belief that this fraudster has no place serving in the People’s House, and I once again call on my colleagues to join me in advocating for George Santos’ expulsion from Congress.”
