Almost every December, I reread “A Christmas Carol.” I always get something out of the tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, the most miserable miser ever described in fiction. Charles Dickens’ 1843 novella does a lot in under 30,000 words. It not only helped to establish many modern Christmas traditions, it also gave the world one of the best comeback stories ever written.
