Millwall manager confirms January deal for Daniel Kelly

The recent announcement regarding Millwall's acquisition of Daniel Kelly has generated significant interest within the football community. As the club's manager confirmed a January deal, this strategic move is indicative of Millwall's ambition to bolster its squad in pursuit of improved performance in the forthcoming season. The decision to target Kelly, a player noted for his technical skills and tactical awareness, reflects an intention to enhance both offensive capabilities and overall team dynamics.

Daniel Kelly’s arrival at Millwall can be perceived as a calculated investment in youth and potential. At an age where many players are beginning to establish their careers, Kelly possesses attributes that suggest he could be a transformative figure for the club. His previous performances have demonstrated not only his capacity to contribute goals but also his ability to create opportunities for teammates. This dual-threat capability may provide Millwall with the versatility needed in high-pressure match situations.

It was reported earlier today that Kelly was set to join the London side after failing to sign a new contract with the Scottish champions. Brendan Rodgers has been quoted as saying he thought the deal was satisfactory, but Kelly thought otherwise.

With Rodgers unwilling to give a player on their way out first-team opportunities, he will play his football in the Lowland League for the remainder of the year.

When his contract expires on 31 December 2024, he will officially join the English Championship outfit.

What’s surprising is that Kelly’s agent doesn’t discuss with Neil Harris the benefits of getting the player in now as opposed to January. That would suit all parties surely, given where things are. Daniel Kelly will tread water in the lowland league, and may or may not be motivated, if he’s given a game.

Meanwhile Millwall could surely do with the player now rather than in January. As with the case with Rocco Vata Celtic will be entitled to a cross border development fee.

Harris added: “We want to be that football club which brings players in and gives them the opportunity.

“It is the only for a football club like us to evolve and develop – it is by playing younger players and adding value to the squad. So you will see more younger players come in the building.

“I know better than anybody, but also the board understand that, if you can have younger players in the building in a Millwall squad then you need real Millwall experience as well.

“That’s real leadership qualities and good Millwall men.

“We’ve got some really good Millwall men in the building at the moment, so it is a good time for us to be adding some younger players.”

Celtic is holding out for around £500,000 plus sell-on bonuses to allow the player to leave this summer which is significantly higher than the £275,000 they will receive in January.
