The Edmonton Oilers faced off against the Florida Panthers in a highly anticipated match, resulting in a decisive 4-1 victory for the Oilers. The game showcased the skill and determination of both teams, but ultimately it was the Oilers who emerged victorious.
Throughout the game, the Oilers displayed exceptional teamwork and communication on the ice. Their offensive plays were executed with precision, leading to multiple scoring opportunities that they capitalized on. The Panthers put up a strong defense, but were unable to contain the relentless attacks from the Oilers.
Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 18 shots for Florida, which was 1-8 all-time in Cup final games before this series started — and now is two wins away from capturing its first championship. Score through two games: Florida 7, Edmonton 1.
“A six-man job against the best players in the world,” Ekblad said.
But the win came with a price for Florida as the Panthers lost Barkov, their captain when Edmonton forward Draisaitl launched toward him midway through the third period and hit him in the head. Barkov remained down for some time, needed help getting to the bench and went down the tunnel for the Florida locker room for further evaluation.
Mattias Ekholm opened the scoring for Edmonton on his team’s first shot on goal midway through the first period, beating Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky for the first time this series after the Panthers won 3-0 in Game 1.
Florida’s Niko Mikkola tied it midway through the second.
Aaron Ekblad added an empty-netter for Florida.
The Oilers lost forward Warren Foegele after he was given a game misconduct in the first period for a knee-on-knee hit on Eetu Luostarinen.
Oilers defenceman Darnell Nurse saw little ice time after he appeared to injure his hip following a hit by Rodrigues in the first.
The Panthers, meanwhile, lost captain Aleksander Barkov after he was hurt on a penalized high hit by Leon Draisaitl in the third period.
The Oilers pulled Skinner for an extra attacker with 5:53 left and went on the power play not long after when Ekman-Larsson shot the puck over the glass. However, the Oilers couldn’t break through. Aaron Ekblad scored into an empty net with 2:28 to go.
“We gotta be better,” said McDavid. “I thought they went up a level and we didn’t match it today.”
Darnell Nurse barely played after taking a hit from Rodrigues in the first period. Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov didn’t return after taking an elbow from Leon Draisaitl halfway through the third.
