MP Lucy Allan suspended after endorsing Reform UK candidate

Recently, Member of Parliament Lucy Allan has been suspended after publicly endorsing a candidate from Reform UK. This decision has sparked controversy and raised questions about the ethical conduct of politicians in the UK.

As an elected official, MPs have a responsibility to remain impartial and represent all constituents fairly. By openly supporting a specific candidate, Allan has potentially compromised her ability to act in the best interests of her constituents.

Ms Allan insists that she quit the party in order to support Reform UK candidate Alan Adams in the seat she is vacating.

She publicly gave her support to Mr Adams rather than Tory Hannah Campbell in Telford, Shropshire.

A Conservative Party spokesman said she had been suspended "with immediate effect" while the prime minister said a vote for Reform would "put Keir Starmer in power".

Mr Adams would offer an alternative to "more of the same politics and more of the same politicians", Ms Allan said.

Following her public declaration of support for Mr Adams, the Conservatives took immediate action and suspended Ms Allan from the party.

But, in the latest blow to Rishi Sunak during a bumpy start to the PM's general election campaign, she claimed she had already quit the Tories in order to back Mr Adams' bid.

Ms Allan claimed the Reform hopeful was 'genuinely the best person for the job' and warned against allowing the Labour candidate a 'walkover' in Telford.

The former Ukip leader made his announcement on X hours before the Reform leader, Richard Tice, launched the party’s general election campaign at a press conference in London.

Farage tweeted: “I have thought long and hard as to whether I should stand in the upcoming general election. As honorary president of Reform UK, I am fully supportive of Richard Tice’s leadership and urge voters to put their trust in him and Lee Anderson [the party’s sole MP]. I will do my bit to help in the campaign, but it is not the right time for me to go further than that.”
