Gavin and Stacey is officially back for one final Christmas special 2024

After nearly a decade since its last episode aired, the beloved British sitcom Gavin and Stacey is set to return for one final Christmas special in 2024. Fans of the show have been eagerly anticipating this news, as they have longed to see what has become of their favorite characters since we last saw them in 2019.

The show, created by James Corden and Ruth Jones, follows the lives of a young couple from England and Wales as they navigate the ups and downs of their relationship, along with their quirky friends and family members. The chemistry between the cast members, especially between Gavin (Mathew Horne) and Stacey (Joanna Page), has always been a highlight of the show.

James Corden and Ruth Jones say: "Some news… It’s official!!! We have finished writing the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey. See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James ❤️"

Gavin and Stacey is coming this Christmas Day on BBC One and iPlayer.

The BBC confirmed the programme with reference to a much-quoted takeaway curry order from Corden’s character, Smithy: “We’ll have: A chicken bhuna, lamb bhuna, prawn bhuna, mushroom rice, bag of chips, keema naan, nine poppadoms and the last-ever episode of Gavin And Stacey!!! Coming this Christmas Day on BBC One and iPlayer.”

The comedy series revolves around the characters Gavin and Stacey, played by Mathew Horne and Joanna Page, as they pursue a long-distance relationship between Billericay in Essex and Barry in Wales.

The show ran for three series from 2007 to 2010, returning in 2019 for a festive special that ended with an unanswered marriage proposal.

Other well-known actors in the cast include Rob Brydon, Melanie Walters, Alison Steadman and Larry Lamb.

A Christmas Day return for the series had been rumoured earlier this year after reports in US media.

Jones had previously denied the claims, but now the show's comeback has been officially confirmed.

The show last aired a Christmas special on BBC One in 2019, which earned an astonishing 18 million viewers, making it the most-watched non-sports event in a decade in the U.K. Its last episode ended on an immense cliffhanger, with Nessa declaring her love to Smithy and proposing to him — but fans never got to see Smithy’s response.
