2024 NBA playoff : Minnesota Timberwolves 122-116 Phoenix Suns

The 2024 NBA playoffs brought an intense matchup between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Phoenix Suns, with both teams fighting for a spot in the finals. The game was a thrilling display of skill and determination, with each team giving their all on the court.

In a close and hard-fought battle, the Timberwolves emerged victorious with a final score of 122-116. Their star players stepped up when it mattered most, making crucial plays and sinking clutch shots to secure the win.

Edwards scored 31 of his 40 points in the second half, Karl-Anthony Towns added 28 and the Timberwolves pulled away late to beat the Suns 122-116 on Sunday night and sweep the first-round playoff series.

The Timberwolves went 19 seasons between playoff series victories, tied for the third-longest span between series wins in NBA history.

Edwards finished 13-of-23 from the field, including 7-of-13 from 3-point range. The 22-year-old threw down a powerful, one-handed jam to give Minnesota a 115-111 lead with 2:14 left.

The Suns have underperformed in Vogel's first season, especially given the caliber of talent in stars Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal -- the latter two who were acquisitions after Ishbia took over the team in February 2023.

Entering Sunday, the Suns have lost five straight playoff games, tied for the longest losing streak in playoff franchise history.

Vogel was signed to a five-year deal in June 2023. He succeeded Monty Williams, who was fired after the team's Western Conference semifinals loss to the Denver Nuggets.

The Suns are relying heavily on Durant and Booker, who are both sitting well below their season average in points per game during this series. Even if Allen returns, Phoenix has not proven that it can match Minnesota's depth. The Suns have only covered the spread once in their last five games, while the Timberwolves have covered in six of their past eight road games. See which team to back at SportsLine.

In the end, it was the Suns' tenacity and teamwork that secured them the victory. The fans were treated to an exciting game filled with fast-paced action and impressive plays from both sides. It was truly a night to remember for basketball fans everywhere.
