The New York Knicks have emerged victorious in a hard-fought first-round playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers, winning three out of four games to advance to the next round. This thrilling matchup showcased the Knicks' resilience and determination as they overcame a formidable opponent in the 76ers.
Led by their star players Julius Randle and RJ Barrett, the Knicks displayed exceptional teamwork and skill throughout the series. Their tenacity on both ends of the court allowed them to outplay the 76ers and secure crucial victories.
Brunson scored 47 points, a new Knicks playoff record, topping two 46-point performances from Bernard King in 1984. He also dished out 10 assists with only one turnover.
Anunoby added 16 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks while also playing some critical defense on Joel Embiid.
At one point in the first quarter, the public address announcer got on the microphone and joked that there was one thing everyone in the building could agree on -- then introduced Dallas Cowboys star linebacker Micah Parsons, who was showered in a universal cacophony of boos.
The unanimity quickly dissipated, however, as Knicks fans -- who could get in to a playoff game for a fraction of the Madison Square Garden price by making the two-hour trip from the greater New York metropolitan area -- made their presence known throughout Sunday's contest.
Not for Embiid, who had to hear Brunson get louder chants of “MVP! MVP!” than the guy who actually won the award last season.
“Disappointing. It’s unfortunate,” Embiid said. “I’m not calling them out but it is disappointing,” adding that he’s aware that Knicks fans often make the short train trip for the road games.
Knicks really turned up the defense. With the Sixers down 3 with just under 3 minutes left, Embiid was lined up for a 3-point shot. But Precious Achiuwa blocked it into the stands off Embiid, giving the Knicks the ball.
Tyrese Maxey also struggled. He scored 23 points, but he made just 8 of 21 shots.
Philadelphia went up by double digits again in the third before a couple bad turnovers halted their momentum and DiVincenzo finally got going with consecutive 3-pointers.
