Wolves 0-1 Bournemouth

In a tightly contested match, Wolves fell to Bournemouth with a score of 0-1. The game was marked by intense defensive play from both sides, with neither team able to break through for much of the match. However, it was Bournemouth who ultimately found the breakthrough in the second half, with Dominic Solanke scoring the lone goal of the game.

Wolves fought hard to equalize but were unable to find the back of the net despite several close chances. The loss was a disappointing result for Wolves, who had been hoping to secure a victory at home.

Bournemouth created a plethora of chances with top scorer Dominic Solanke, Alex Scott, Kerkez and Justin Kluivert all testing home keeper Jose Sa, who performed admirably in the face of constant pressure.

The Cherries' profligacy in front of goal looked like it was going to be punished when Hwang Hee-chan looked to have equalised in the second half, but his effort was ruled out after the video assistant referee (VAR) asked on-field official Stuart Attwell to check the pitchside monitor for a foul in the build-up.

Milos Kerkez was sent off in the second half as Wolves pushed hard to get an equalizer and they thought they grabbed one on two occasions. First, Hwang Hee-chan headed home but referee Stuart Attwell (who hasn’t been in the news at all this week...) was asked by VAR to look at a possible foul in the build up and he disallowed the goal. Wolves then scored in the 99th minute but Max Kilman was just offside and VAR checked the call and it stood as Gary O’Neil was left puffing out his cheeks once again.

The game immediately fell back into its original pattern in the aftermath of that incident, with Bournemouth probing without finding any success in the final third, until they were reduced to 10-men for the final 10 minutes of regulation time after Hungary left-back Kerkez was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Matt Doherty.

Wolves improved after the break and thought they had equalised with Hwang Hee-chan's header, but the 66th-minute effort was ruled out by the VAR for a Matheus Cunha foul in the build-up.

"It's our worst performance of the season. Far too many individuals were below the level we've been able to reach so far. There's no excuse, even with the situation we're in," O'Neil said.

"I can accept the last six results, we've been competitive in difficult circumstances. But I can't accept that first 45 minutes.

Wolves have scored just seven second-half goals in this season's Premier League, fewer than any other team, and could not find an equaliser.
