Emma Raducanu beat Angelique Kerber

Emma Raducanu made history by defeating Angelique Kerber in the fourth round of the US Open. The 18-year-old British tennis sensation stunned the world with her remarkable performance against the three-time Grand Slam champion. Raducanu's victory over Kerber was not only a testament to her incredible talent and skill on the court but also a display of her mental toughness and composure under pressure.

Raducanu's win against Kerber marked a significant milestone in her young career, as she became the youngest British woman to reach the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam since 1991. Her fearless and aggressive playing style, combined with her unwavering determination and focus, propelled her to victory over one of the top players in women's tennis.

Raducanu, ranked 303rd in the world as she continues her comeback from double wrist surgery, has struggled with form and injuries since her fairytale US Open title in 2021.

Raducanu became an overnight star after winning the US Open in what was only her second Grand Slam tournament. It was a story to warm even the coldest hearts. Her winning smile and remarkable composure made her one of the world’s most marketable sports personalities.

Yet things started to turn sour pretty quickly when it came to the actual tennis. At Wimbledon in 2021 she was forced to retire from her fourth round match as she was struggling with an anxiety-related problem. In truth, Raducanu has had difficulties with form and injuries almost continuously. She has changed coaches multiple times and tends to make headlines of late more for her appearances at celebrity events rather than any feats on the tennis court.

Meanwhile former world No 1 Kerber only recently returned from 18 months out on maternity leave.

Raducanu got off to a flying start by breaking Kerber in the opening game and despite an immediate response from the German, the 2021 US Open champion took control and claimed the first set in 41 minutes.

The recorded profit of £9.6 million is a little short of Forbes Magazine’s estimate of £12.2 million as Raducanu’s annual earnings, which was made in August and placed her sixth in the list of the highest-earning tennis players.

‌Raducanu has endured an injury-plagued couple of seasons since her dramatic triumph in New York, and underwent three separate operations last May to deal with issues in both wrists and one ankle.

As Raducanu continues to make waves in the tennis world, her triumph over Kerber will be remembered as a defining moment in her journey towards greatness.
