Bayern win 1-0 over Arsenal in Champions League

Arsenal put up a valiant effort, with their defense holding strong against Bayern's relentless attacks. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to find the back of the net and were left disappointed by the result.

Arsenal were chasing a first Champions League semi-final spot since 2009, with Arteta accepting his team were inexperienced at this stage of the competition. This was their first quarter-final appearance since 2010.

"We haven't played this competition for seven years and we haven't been in this stage for 14 years," he said. "There's a reason for it.

"We want to do everything fast-forward, super-quick, in one season. I think we have the capacity and the quality to be in the semi-final because the margins are very small.

"Those margins are coming from something else that maybe we don't have yet. We have to learn it.

Kimmich scooped a cross into the box which Leon Goretzka headed onto the bar, and the rebound fell to Raphael Guerreiro who saw his effort smack off William Saliba and then the foot of the post.

But in the 62nd minute, Thomas Tuchel’s team found the breakthrough. Leroy Sane’s cross was palmed away by Raya, but Guerreiro once again picked up possession on the opposite side of the box. He dinked the ball into a crowd of players that Kimmich charged towards, and the full-back headed it powerfully into the net to put us behind.

"There's a reason for it. We want to do everything fast forward, super quick in one season. I think we have the capacity and the quality to be in the semifinal because the margins are very small.

"Those margins are coming from something else that maybe we don't have yet. We have to learn it. When you look historically it took other clubs seven, eight or 10 years to do it. Today that's not going to make us feel better that's for sure."

Bayern shut up shop knowing they had a spot in the last four in their grasp, and managed to pretty much nullify everything we tried to throw at them, although Gooners hearts were in mouths when Odegaard broke into the box and let fly but Neuer nudged his shot into the side-netting.
