Premier League predictions: West Ham vs. Brentford

The upcoming Premier League match between West Ham and Brentford is sure to be an exciting and closely contested battle. Both teams have shown strong performances in recent games, with West Ham currently sitting in the top half of the table and Brentford looking to climb out of the relegation zone.

West Ham, led by their dynamic attacking duo of Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen, will be looking to secure three points at home and continue their push for European qualification. However, Brentford will not go down without a fight, as they have proven themselves to be a resilient side capable of causing upsets.

The Hammers won their first match of 2024, with Bowen scoring his first goals since before Christmas, to end a miserable run of eight games without a victory which had prompted more questions about the manager’s future.

Played five, lost five was their sorry Premier League record against Brentford, the only team of the 43 Moyes had faced in the top flight and not previously beaten.

Finally the rot was stopped as Brentford, already plunged deeper into the relegation scrap earlier on Monday following Everton’s points deduction being reduced from 10 to six, suffered another defeat - their 12th in 15 matches since beating West Ham at home in November.

For Brentford and West Ham, the records and point totals might not fully capture how evenly this match could be played. Brentford has a 7-4-14 season record and is 1-0-4 in its past five matches, but in terms of goal differential (-9 to -8), goals scored (36 to 35) and goals allowed (44 for both) has had a season remarkably similar to West Ham. Brentford also owns a 3-2 win over West Ham when they last met Nov. 4.

West Ham’s hopes of improving that run on Monday have been dented by the absence of Kalvin Phillips, who will be unavailable for the trip to east London due to suspension.

The on-loan Man City midfielder has had a dismal spell in the capital thus far and picked up an avoidable red card for two cautions in the space of a few minutes during West Ham’s recent loss at Nottingham Forest.

Lucas Paqueta returned to training this week but may not be fit enough to feature here, while Brentford is still missing the likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Rico Henry and Ethan Pinnock through injury.
