Linda Dominguez is a transgender woman and activist whose mistreatment by NYPD officers and subsequent lawsuit gained national attention earlier this month. Officers stopped Linda cutting through a park past closing time. When she provided the police with two identification cards, one with her preferred name and correct gender, the other with her given name and assigned gender, the officers arrested her for trespassing and charged her with “false personation.” Officers then replaced her metal handcuffs with pink ones, ridiculed her and referred to her using male pronouns.
