Exclusive Poster Debut and Trailer Sneak Peek Borderlands Movie

The highly anticipated Borderlands movie has been generating buzz among fans of the popular video game franchise. With the recent exclusive poster debut and trailer sneak peek, excitement for the film is at an all-time high.

The poster showcases the iconic characters from the game, including Lilith, Claptrap, and Psycho, set against a backdrop of the post-apocalyptic world of Pandora. The gritty and colorful aesthetic of the poster perfectly captures the essence of the Borderlands universe.

Movie adaptations of video games have a troubled history. Mostly, that involves very bad or at least deeply mediocre attempts to just use the title and aesthetics of the game and force it into some convoluted plot that misses the point of the game altogether. This has changed for the better over the years and that makes me slightly less skeptical of the upcoming Borderlands movie than I would have been a few years ago.

ilith teams up with a band of outcasts that includes former soldier Roland (Kevin Hart), pre-teen demolitionist Tiny Tina (Ariana Greenblatt), Tina’s bodyguard Krieg (Florian Munteanu), scientist Tannis (Jamie Lee Curtis) and robot Claptrap (Jack Black). One photo shows the team assembled, peering down a manhole.

The casting of the movie also includes Arianna Greenblatt (Barbie, Love and Monsters) and Florian Munteanu (Creed II, Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings). In the new images released for the movie, every character looks like they were lifted off the screen and pasted into real life. Something not every video game movie gets right on the first try. This is a good start for some gamers as it shows that Eli Roth is paying attention and showing some respect for the source material.

A movie adaptation of Gearbox Software’s video game series, Borderlands will see Lilith and co. battle alien monsters and bandits as they traverse Pandora in search of the missing girl. “The fate of the universe could be in their hands – but they’ll be fighting for something more: each other,” says a synopsis of the forthcoming film.

In Black’s case, the roots run even deeper. Back in 2012, he brought his son to E3 when Borderlands 2 was first being teased. Black asked Pitchford for a demo of the game, and the Gearbox founder told him that he would have to play Claptrap if a film adaptation of the franchise were ever to be made. The Nacho Libre star, of course, readily agreed.

“Whether you've played a Borderlands game or not, it's a fun movie. It's a really, really fun movie,” Pitchford said.

Borderlands will be released in U.S. theaters by Lionsgate on Aug. 9, 2024.
