Danny Masterson moved from maximum to minimum security prison for ‘safety concerns’

Danny Masterson, once a beloved actor known for his roles in popular TV shows like "That '70s Show," has recently found himself in the midst of controversy and legal troubles. Accused of multiple counts of rape and sexual assault, Masterson was initially placed in a maximum-security prison while awaiting trial.

However, due to safety concerns, Masterson has been moved to a minimum-security prison. This decision raises questions about the justice system and how it prioritizes the safety of both inmates and staff.

A representative for the CDCR confirmed on Monday that Masterson was transferred to the new facility on Feb. 16. The CDCR added that "by law" they "cannot disclose information about reasons for transfers or detailed housing information."

According to state records, former That ‘70s Show star Masterson, 47, has been transferred to California’s Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo, which is categorised as a medium and minimum-security facility.

According to reports in Deadline, the move is due to concerns for “the inmate’s well-being”.

Men’s Colony is a medium-and-minimum-security facility located in central California. The West Facility, which is now Masterson’s home, gives inmates the opportunity to enrich their lives while imprisoned.

In addition to career and technical education courses, prisoners can take part in “self-improvement programs” such as “cognitive behavior therapy programs, substance abuse education, criminal thinking, anger management and family relationships,” according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s facility description.

Last year, Masterson was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison after he was found guilty of raping two women over two decades ago.

In December 2023, Masterson was admitted into the prison system and began his 30-year sentence at North Kern State Prison in Delano, California. He was moved to Corcoran in January before his most-recent switch to Men’s Colony. Masterson will not be eligible for parole until July 2042, when he would be 66 years old.

As his trial progresses, it remains to be seen what the outcome will be for Danny Masterson and how his case will impact discussions surrounding sexual assault and accountability in Hollywood.
