UEFA Champions League predictions

The UEFA Champions League is undoubtedly one of the most prestigious and highly anticipated football tournaments in the world. Every year, top clubs from across Europe battle it out for a chance to lift the coveted trophy. Fans eagerly await the tournament, not only to witness thrilling matches but also to make their predictions about which team will emerge victorious.

Predicting the outcome of the UEFA Champions League is no easy task. The competition is fierce, with teams boasting some of the best players in the world. However, there are certain factors that can help in making accurate predictions.

The knockout stage of the 2023-24 UEFA Champions League season begins on Tuesday, when several of Europe's leading teams — including last year's winner Manchester City and record 14-time titlist Real Madrid — play the first leg of their two-match, total-goals-wins round of 16 series.

As usual, there are no shortage of questions heading into the business end of soccer's most important club competition, which concludes June 1 at Wembley Stadium in London.

with the competition returning on Tuesday with City travelling to Denmark to face FC Copenhagen and European heavyweights Real Madrid facing RB Leipzig, we decided it was as good a time as any to see how the supercomputer rates each team’s chances.

So, in the latest batch of 10,000 simulations of the rest of the season, this is how often each team progressed to each stage of the competition, as well as how often they won it.

Of the 16 teams remaining, only four were victorious in more than one-tenth of those simulations. City remain favourites to win the Champions League again after winning the treble last season, doing so 32.1% of the time. At the time of writing, they even have a greater-than-50% chance of reaching the final.

Erling Haaland is tied for the most goals in this season’s Champions League with five. Two Atlético Madrid players share that lead, Álvaro Moratá and Antoine Griezmann. Haaland is already top scorer and is on the team favored to win the tournament. It’s logical for him to be a massive favorite, at even money, to be the top goalscorer for the second time in a row. Neither Moratá nor Griezmann are among the favorites, mostly due to Atlético being an underdog in the Round of 16.
