The record-setting storm system was expected to drop up to 3 inches of rain in San Diego as well as Los Angeles throughout Tuesday and Wednesday. Concerns of flooding and mudslides have escalated because the ground is heavily saturated in many areas.
The National Weather Service issued a rare tornado warning for a wide swath of south and east San Diego County shortly before noon Tuesday after a rotating column of air in a thunderstorm was detected by radar. The alert was lifted around 12:15 p.m.Over the weekend, Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency for eight of the Golden State’s counties, including Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, and San Diego, in anticipation of the potent storm. In March 2023, several businesses were damaged after a tornado struck Montebello in Los Angeles County. Nearly two months later, the NWS confirmed a tornado hit the Carson-Compton area.
The account says Jackie has spent 35 hours atop her eggs, protecting them from ravens, snow and overnight low temperatures in the 20s — soon to be in the teens. Shadow has been running errands — grabbing fluff and sticks for the nest when weather allows, the account said.
The Friends of Big Bear Valley warned that continued precipitation and strong winds overnight could knock the 24-hour-a-day webcam out of service temporarily. If only it had the fortitude of Jackie.
