Premier League : Brentford vs Man City (1-3)

The Premier League clash between Brentford and Manchester City ended with a 3-1 victory for the latter. The match was highly anticipated, as both teams had been in excellent form leading up to this encounter. The game started off with an intense battle for possession, as both sides looked to assert their dominance early on.

Brentford showed great resilience and determination, pressing high up the pitch and creating several scoring opportunities. However, it was Manchester City who drew first blood, with a clinical finish from their star striker Gabriel Jesus. This goal seemed to deflate Brentford momentarily, but they quickly regrouped and continued to fight back.

City’s opponents might be able to stop Haaland from scoring or close down the space for assist king De Bruyne, but there will always be a top-class player somewhere in the team to inflict the damage.

Foden was that player against Brentford as he led City’s recovery after Neal Maupay’s 21st-minute goal against the run of play for the hosts.

It is the fourth successive Premier League away match in which we have trailed before going on to claim all three points.

In fact, Pep Guardiola’s side have now won nine matches in a row across all competitions.

We have 49 points from 22 Premier League games and breathing down the neck of leaders Liverpool on 51 points from 23 matches.

There was more positive news at the beginning of a hectic February, with Erling Haaland making his first start in almost two months and Manuel Akanji returning to take his place on the bench.

Brentford then won a series of corners and the remarkable sight of putting nine men in the six yard box with only one outfield player from each side occupying the remaining 90 metres of grass.

They came to nothing though and City levelled in first-half stoppage time when Foden seized on a weak clearance header, calmly chesting the ball down and sweeping it in with his side’s 17th attempt on goal in the half.

It was the ever-elusive Foden again who put them ahead after Kevin de Bruyne clipped in a perfect cross for the unmarked midfielder to glance home in the 53rd minute.

Spirited Brentford did have a flurry of attempts but City dealt with them before Foden completed his treble with another calm finish after a one-two with Haaland in the 70th minute.
