Former Ashley High School football player Alex Highsmith’s jersey to be retired ...Middle East

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Ashley High School graduate Alex Highsmith’s jersey is set to be retired on Friday, Feb. 9, at 7:45 p.m. between the varsity girls and varsity boys games at the school. Highsmith went on to play for the UNC Charlotte football team, got selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the third round of the 2020 draft and has been one of their linebackers ever since. In 2023, he signed a five-year contract with the Steelers worth $70 million with $27.7 million in guaranteed money. Copyright 2024 WECT. All rights reserved.
