UCLA women’s basketball defeat USC

The UCLA women's basketball team recently suffered a devastating defeat at the hands of their arch-rivals, USC. This loss not only had a significant impact on the team's morale but also left their fans disheartened. The game was highly anticipated, with both teams showcasing exceptional talent and skill.

From the very beginning, it was evident that USC came prepared to dominate the court. Their players displayed remarkable teamwork and coordination, making it difficult for UCLA to gain any advantage. Despite their best efforts, UCLA struggled to keep up with USC's fast-paced offense and relentless defense.

USC received a game-high 27 points from Watkins, who also tallied a double-double in hauling in 11 rebounds, with McKenzie Forbes scoring 23 points for the Trojans, while Rayah Marshall pulled in a game-high 13 rebounds. UCLA had four players finish in double digits, led by London Jones' 21 points with five 3-pointers made. Lauren Betts had 15 points, Kiki Rice had 12, and Charima Osborne scored 10 for the Bruins.

Gottlieb said she’s already noticed the groundswell for USC’s non-conference games, against teams that are lower on the college basketball food chain. Much of that is undoubtedly attributable to Watkins, the country’s No.1 recruit, who came into Saturday averaging 26.8 points, 6.9 rebounds and 31.1 minutes. Against UCLA she went for 27 and 11 and played 38:10 minutes, coming out briefly late because of an apparent cramp.

A crowd of UCLA women’s basketball alumni were recognized at halfcourt during a break in the game, and Russell and Nina Westbrook came out to support, as well.

“If you’re if you’re not on the woman’s basketball sports train, then you’re late,” Gottlieb said. “It’s unbelievable to have little girls, little boys, the community, all types of people here to see strong women compete. I think we don’t shy away from that attention.”

UCLA also had standout players who made significant contributions to their team's performance. Emily Thompson's three-point shooting was exceptional, keeping her team within striking distance during critical moments of the game.

However, it was ultimately USC's tenacious defense that sealed their victory. Their ability to force turnovers and convert them into fast-break points gave them a crucial advantage over UCLA.

This match between USC and UCLA showcased the incredible talent within women's basketball. Both teams fought valiantly until the final buzzer sounded. However, it was USC's superior offensive strategy and unwavering teamwork that led them to victory in this classic rivalry matchup.
