The Patriots' last-second win over the Broncos with a score of 26-23 was a thrilling and nail-biting game that showcased the true spirit of competition and determination. From start to finish, both teams displayed their exceptional skills and strategic gameplay, making it an unforgettable match for football enthusiasts.
Throughout the game, both teams fought relentlessly to gain the upper hand. The Broncos' defense was formidable, making it challenging for the Patriots to break through their lines. However, with their unwavering determination and precise execution of plays, the Patriots managed to keep up with their opponents.
The Pats defense forced one final stop and gave the offense a final chance, which they took advantage of with a big third-down play for 27 yards to DeVante Parker that set up a thrilling game-winning field goal by Chad Ryland as time wound down to the final two seconds. It gave New England a 26-23 win.
The Broncos hold very faint hopes of becoming just the fourth team since the merger to make the playoffs after losing five of their first six games, but they'll need plenty of help to get there now.
Denver's defense has carried the team all season, leading the Broncos back from a 1-5 start and into playoff contention, but Payton's offense hasn't done its part, something that was never in clearer focus than in the game's opening sequence.
The Broncos entered the fourth quarter down 16 points, but their offense finally got things together with back-to-back long touchdown drives. Wilson performed like he was worth two first-round picks, two-second round picks and more, connecting with Mims for maybe the biggest play of the game to set up the first touchdown.
On the ensuing drive, Zappe stepped up in the pocket on the very first play and hit Pop Douglas for a 41-yarder and then targeted the rookie for a 13-yard crosser, as Douglas accounted for 54 yards all by himself. Zeke Elliot finished the drive off two plays later by catching a swing pass, jumping over a defender and taking the rock to the house for a Patriots touchdown.
Unfortunately, Ryland's struggles continued as he missed the extra point, his first extra point miss of the season. That made it 9-7 in the third quarter.
The Broncos started their next drive at the Patriots 46 but went three-and-out and they began their third drive at the New England 25 after Mims' 52-yard punt return.
This time, they finally exploited their good field position with Williams running it in for a 7-0 lead.
Zappe finished 25 of 33 for 25 yards and two TDs. Wilson was 25 of 37 for 238 yards and two TDs.
