In recent news, Simone Biles' husband has faced criticism for claiming that he is the "catch" in their marriage. This statement has sparked a debate about gender roles and societal expectations within relationships. While some argue that his comment was harmless and meant to be lighthearted, others believe it perpetuates harmful stereotypes.
On one hand, it can be argued that the husband's claim was simply a playful remark meant to express his love and admiration for his wife. In this view, it is seen as a harmless expression of confidence in their relationship. Furthermore, some may argue that such comments are common in relationships and should not be taken too seriously.
Biles' husband, whose name remains undisclosed, has been a constant pillar of support throughout her journey. His unwavering dedication and encouragement have undoubtedly played a significant role in Biles' continued success. As she continues to break records and redefine what is possible in gymnastics, his presence by her side serves as a reminder of the importance of having a strong support system.
Asked by co-host Channing Crowder, "How in the hell did you pull Simone Biles?", Owens admitted he "didn't know who she was" back in 2020 when they first connected, after matching on the Raya dating app.
"I'm like, 'Lemme see who this is.' I never really paid attention to gymnastics, so it piqued my curiosity," said the NFL player.
He soon learned that Biles, 26, was more notable than he'd realized. "The first thing that I saw was that she just had a bunch of [Instagram] followers. So in my mind I'm like, 'Okay, she's gotta be good,' " Owens said on the podcast.
The football pro said that Biles initially worked harder than he did to make a romance happen. “I was fighting it,” he said, adding, “I was afraid to commit. I’m like, ‘Agh, man, this is my third year (as an NFL pro). It’s kind of early.’”
That all changed once the pair spent time together. “We hung out, man, it was like we hit it off instantly,” Owens gushed. “You know, we just laughed the whole night.”
Co-host Clark asked Owens if he told Biles he didn’t who she was.
Biles becomes the sixth woman to win the AP award for a third time, joining the likes of Serena Williams and Annika Sorenstam, among others. She beat out basketball star Caitlin Clark and Aitana Bonmatí, the Spanish footballer who led her team to the Women's World Cup title, for the 2023 honour. It's telling of where Biles is in her life that she recently shared an Instagram story in which followers were asked to post their best moment of 2023.
