Washington vs. Oregon State 22-20

The No. 5 Huskies went into Corvallis and pulled out a hard-fought 22-20 victory over No. 11 Oregon State on Saturday to stay undefeated, clinch a spot in the Pac-12 title game and remain firmly in the College Football Playoff hunt.

And the Huskies improved to 11-0 despite being shut out in the second half.

On a rainy night at Reser Stadium, Washington took a 22-10 lead into halftime thanks to a pair of Michael Penix Jr. touchdown passes to Rome Odunze but picked up only three first downs in the entire second half.

The Huskies are the highest ranked Pac-12 team in the weekly College Football Playoff rankings. Oregon State is No. 11 in the CFP rankings.

Here's how to watch this weekend's game and what to know about the big matchup as both Oregon State and Washington seek to secure their team's spot in the Pac-12 championship game.

The Huskies remained outside the top four this week, even after consecutive wins over ranked opponents. The Beavers present another chance to pad an already impressive resume, but don't expect the home team to be too accommodating to their guests. Oregon State is very much alive in the Pac-12 title race and faces the Huskies this week and Oregon next week. Wins in both games will put the Beavers in the conference title game.

At the same token, Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. strengthened his Heisman campaign against strong competition, finishing out the game 13-of-28 for 162 yards with two passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown.

That may not look especially impressive by the numbers at first glance, but it's important to note that while Penix looked strong as a passer on tape, the rain played an incredible role in wreaking havoc on both teams' passing games.

On Saturday, he completed only 52% of his 23 attempts for 141 yards and no touchdowns. One of his 11 incompletions was an inaccurate deep pass to Cornelius Johnson, who was wide open down the field. He also made an ill-advised throw right before he was intercepted in the second quarter. Overall, it was his worst performance since a victory over Bowling Green, when he succumbed to his reckless tendencies and was picked off three times. It’s a troubling development considering McCarthy’s downturn has occurred right before the Wolverines’ showdown with Ohio State.
