The weakening of the Russian currency is being attributed to changes in the trade balance and strong demand for foreign currency The Russian ruble weakened past the symbolic threshold of 100 to the US dollar on Tuesday, as foreign currency outflows and a changing trade balance continue to weigh on the currency. The last time the ruble was trading at 100 to the greenback was August 14. The Russian currency recovered slightly through the morning to trade just above 99 to the dollar.
