Browns' player Nick Chubb suffers serious knee injury

Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb was carted off the field after injuring his left knee against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night.

 Nick Chubb suffered the injury after a 5-yard run near the Steelers' goal line in the second quarter. He was ruled out almost immediately.  Nick Chubb, who already had 64 yards on 10 carries, injured the same knee in 2015, tearing his MCL, PCL and LCL.

The All-Pro running back immediately gestured toward the sideline. Players from both sides offered their support as he was loaded on the cart.

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters after the game that he anticipates Chubb missing the rest of the season.

Quarterbacks and running backs around the league were among the first to react to Chubb's injury on social media.

After the play, a teammate grabbed Chubb's hand to try to help him to his feet, and Chubb shook his head while clutching his left knee. He undid his chinstrap and rolled over onto his side.

Chubb suffered a serious injury to the same knee in 2015 while in college at Georgia — a dislocation with three torn ligaments. Like the previous injury, the one Monday night was difficult to watch, and ESPN declined to show replays of the play where he was hurt.

Steelers fans warmly chanted "Chubb" as the running back, who was visibly emotional, was transported off the field.

Chubb previously tore the PCL, MCL and LCL in his left knee during his college career at Georgia. It's the same knee he injured on Monday.

A model of consistent excellence, Chubb is a four-time Pro Bowler who's had four straight 1,000-yard rushing seasons. The 27-year-old was well on his way to another stellar campaign, having rushed for 106 yards in Week 1 against the Cincinnati Bengals and having tallied 64 yards on 10 carries Monday

Chubb was given a warm round of applause from the rival Steelers’ fans as he was taken off the field on a medical cart.

Fitzpatrick was also shaken up on the play but remained in the game.

The Browns quickly announced that Chubb would miss the remainder of the game. The full extent of his injury is still unknown.

Chubb had 10 carries for 64 yards in the game prior to the injury.
