Actor Billy Miller, who delighted soap opera fans for years with his portrayal of Billy Abbott on “The Young and the Restless,” has died. He was 43.
Miller’s manager confirmed the news of his death in a statement to TODAY.com, adding that Sept. 17 would have been his 44th birthday.
“Emmy Award-Winning Actor Billy Miller died on September 15, 2023, in Austin, Texas. The actor was struggling with manic depression when he died,” the statement reads. A cause of death was not provided.
The Oklahoma native grew up in Texas, where he earned a degree in film at the University of Texas, Austin. "Upon graduation, he moved to Los Angeles. While working in the mailroom of a prominent entertainment management/production company, he decided, after encouragement (a dare) from friends, to pursue a career as an actor," Sparer wrote in announcing his death.
Soap opera fans watched Miller get his start on “All My Children” in 2007 as Richie Novak. He stayed on the series for one year before he became a cast member on “The Young and the Restless.”
Miller’s manager confirmed the news to Variety in a statement on Sunday, which would’ve marked the actor’s 44th birthday.
“The actor was struggling with manic depression when he died,” the statement reads.
Miller was born on Sept. 17, 1979, and grew up in Grand Prairie, Texas. Throughout his childhood, he battled with Tarsal coalition, a rare condition that affected the cartilage in his ankles.
Miller found early success appearing in commercials and, in 2007, he stepped into his breakout television role on the ABC soap opera "All My Children," where he played the character Richie Novak for about one year.
Miller joined the cast of General Hospital in 2014 and played Jason Morgan and Drew Cain. He was a series regular until 2019.
His other acting credits included parts in Suits, Showtime’s Ray Donovan, and Apple TV+’s Truth Be Told.
Survivors include Miller’s parents, Bill and Sue Miller, sister Kelly Miller, and longtime love Kelly Monaco.
No memorial plans have been revealed. However, the management announcement said that donationscan be made to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children
