Lauren Boebert apologizes about her bad attitude at Beetlejuice show

Rep. Lauren Boebert, the Colorado Republican who was kicked out of a performance of the musical “Beetlejuice” last weekend for disruptive behavior, apologized for the incident, saying she “fell short of my values.”

The statement followed widely shared surveillance video that appeared to show her vaping inside the Denver theater.

“The past few days have been difficult and humbling, and I’m truly sorry for the unwanted attention my Sunday evening in Denver has brought to the community,” Boebert’s apology read, according to several media outlets. “While none of my actions or words as a private citizen that night were intended to be malicious or meant to cause harm, the reality is they did and I regret that.”

In a statement released distributed by her campaign team, Boebert blamed herself for not being more graceful during a "public and difficult" divorce from her husband. Boebert filed for divorce from Jayson Boebert in April.

In a Friday evening Facebook post, Boebert acknowledged the "unwanted attention" she received following her appearance at the venue and insisted that her words and actions that night had not been meant to be "malicious" or to "cause harm."

"The past few days have been difficult and humbling, and I'm truly sorry for the unwanted attention my Sunday evening in Denver has brought to the community," Boebert wrote. "While none of my actions or words as a private citizen that night were intended to be malicious or meant to cause harm, the reality is they did and I regret that."

Boebert did not directly address the second video in her Friday apology. She did mention her vaping but claimed that she had previously denied it only because she “did not recall” having done so.

“Whether it was the excitement of seeing a much-anticipated production or the natural anxiety of being in a new environment, I genuinely did not recall vaping that evening when I discussed the night’s events with my campaign team while confirming my enthusiasm for the musical.”

Boebert’s bad audience etiquette was, sadly, not a surprise. We’ve seen how she acts attending the State of the Union address (heckling President Biden), in television interviews (heckling reporters) and on the floor of Congress (heckling our system of government). Her vitriolic taunts and outrageous outbursts are more akin to the way audiences behave at third-tier wrestling matches, or pie-eating contests.
