Ever since “The Golden Bachelor” was announced, fans (and critics) have been wondering if the female contestants would be well, age appropriate, for the show’s senior citizen star. Or, would executives cast women of a different generation to date 72-year-old leading man, Gerry Turner?
Now, that question has been answered, and these ladies are indeed fabulously mature, showing that age is nothing but a number.
Love knows no limits, and “The Golden Bachelor” will showcase love stories for the golden years in life — something that is rarely seen in Hollywood, a notoriously ageist town.
ABC has revealed the cast for its latest spinoff, and the women of “The Golden Bachelor” — who range from 60 to 75 years young — certainly are golden.
The cast of the ABC's senior-focused dating show spinoff is finally here. As Gerry Turner, 71, graces TV screens come September as the network's inaugural "Golden Bachelor," he will be joined by 22 women between the ages of 60 and 75.
An announcement describes the women as "accomplished golden ladies" who will take time out of their already full lives to "rediscover" love, a harsh pivot from the twentysomethings who are a mainstay of ABC's signature reality programs "The Bachelor" and "The Bachelorette." Instead, "The Golden Bachelor" is spun as a foray into second chances.
Turner, a widower, has said he isn't looking to replicate what he had with his wife, who dies in 2017, but rather discover a new kind of companionship for his sunset years.
They've had careers in education, real estate, finance — even cheerleading and competitive aerobics. They hail from small towns (Estill Springs, TN) and big cities (New York, NY), and their musical tastes run the gamut from classic rock to Harry Styles. (One of them even saw the Beatles in concert.) They have names like Edith, Joan, and Peggy. And every last one of them is at least 60 years old.
They are the women of The Golden Bachelor. ABC released a brief teaser on Monday, and now EW has your exclusive first look at all 22 contestants who will be vying for the heart of the Golden Bachelor himself, 72-year-old widower Gerry Turner, this fall.
