Taylor Swift has announced that her next album will be a re-recorded version of 1989.
1989 (Taylor’s Version) is part of an effort by the pop star to re-record and re-release the bulk of her back catalogue, amid a royalties dispute with producer Scooter Braun.
During Taylor Swift performance at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, Taylor Swift confirmed that 1989 (Taylor's Version) would be released on 27 October 2023 - exactly nine years after the original came out.
Initially issued in 2014, 1989 is the album that “changed my life in countless ways,” continues Swift, adding that “it fills me with such excitement to announce” her latest “Version.”
And there’s an added incentive to tune in, as if Swifties needed any more hype. “To be perfectly honest,” TayTay writes, “this is my most FAVORITE re-record I’ve ever done because the 5 From The Vault tracks are so insane. I can’t believe they were ever left behind. But not for long!”
1989 (Taylor’s Version)” will mark the singer-songwriter’s fourth re-recorded album and will arrive exactly nine years since the original release of “1989,” which won the Grammy Award for “Album of the Year” in 2016.
Fans also noted that the singer-songwriter’s announcement came eight years, nine months and 13 days after the release of “1989.”
Swift made subtle nods to the original album on a number of occasions during her stop at SoFi Stadium.
“When I announced that I was doing re-records, that was something I expected to be a me thing; just a personal thing,” she told the crowd tonight. “Since I was a teenager, I wanted to own my own music and they way to do it was to re-record my albums. You embraced that… you celebrated that. You really decided that it was your fight too, and that you were 100% behind me, and if I care about it, you care about it. And I just want to thank you for that.”
While many high-profile entertainers move about with filmmakers in tow, Taylor's extensive personnel suggests she could be planning something significant.
Swift previously released the Netflix documentary Miss Americana in 2020.
Taylor has packed her Eras shows with an eye-popping 45 tracks, as well as a selection of surprise songs, with fans eagerly waiting to see which tracks would make an unlikely appearance each night.
