Shoplifting forum planned in Willits Wednesday

Willits city officials will be gathering at City Hall Wednesday afternoon to discuss how business owners and the Willits Police Department can best respond together to shoplifting. WPD Chief Fabian Lizarraga said that while shoplifting is “a year-round problem that ebbs and flows, often when school lets out for the summer, we do see an increase in incidents.” Lizarraga said the intent of the discussion, scheduled for 2 p.m. Aug. 2 at City Hall, located at 111 E. Commercial St., is “to help us each other to address the issue,” with the police department and merchants sharing strategies for both preventing and prosecuting thefts.
