Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in Parbie

The pink carpet was rolled out last night (9 July) in Los Angeles for the worldpremiere of the Barbie movie, and the first reactions from critics have hit social media.

After the Los Angeles premiere of the Greta Gerwig film on Sunday night, attendees shared their thoughts on social media, praising the comedy and its performances from Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.

Made by indie film prodigy Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, Barbie has received overwhelmingly positive early reviews after a screening attended by stars including Nicki Minaj and Dua Lipa.

ComicBook.com's Jamie Jirak tweeted, "... Greta Gerwig somehow exceeded my expectations. She tackles the positives and negatives of Barbie so beautifully. Give Ryan Gosling an Oscar nomination, I'm dead serious!"

The reviews for Barbie are in! Perhaps the most hyped-up movie ever has some serious sparkly pink big shoes to fill thanks to its VERY enthusiastic marketing team - but has the Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling movie met the hype?

While neither his wife Eva nor his daughters were in attendance at the star-studded – and very much pink-ified – Los Angeles premiere, Ryan made sure to honor them by way of his monochrome pink look's accessory: a necklace with an "E" for Eva in the signature Barbie font.

Himbos have feelings, too. In “Just Ken,” the latest drop from the Barbie soundtrack, Ryan Gosling proves that men with hot, washboard abs and bleach-blond hair are more than mere eye candy, more than a simple accessory — like Barbie’s pink corvette and archival Chanel tweed — that she totes around her dream house. This Ken has feelings. “Doesn’t seem to matter what I do / I’m always No. 2,” he sings. “ I have feelings that I can’t explain / They’re drivin’ me insane.” In a montage of him playing sidekick alongside main character Barbie, he rides in the backseat of the tandem bike, his girlfriend doesn’t accept his affections, and he struggles in Barbie’s world. His fellow Kens rally around him, hinting at a dance number while our main Ken is manic and shirtless underneath a fur coat. “Is it my destiny to live and die a life of blond fragility?” he asks as the instruments come in with a roar. We guess Kenergy means being mired in existential angst no matter how empty your head is.

Greta Gerwig, who directed the new movie, opened up about it to The Guardian explaining: "The idea of Barbie Land. The idea of Barbie herself being constrained in multitudes. The idea that self is dispersed among many people, that all of these women are Barbie and Barbie is all of these women.
