A hearty congratulations to Eddie Caban, who Monday lost the “acting” in his title and became Mayor Adams’ second police commissioner, succeeding Keechant Sewell in the role. Caban becomes the first Latino PC, a moment of pride for the 28% of New York City residents with similar family backgrounds. Having served the department for 32 years, he has intimate knowledge of the department he’s now leading — and is said to be in sync with Adams, a former police captain elected mayor on a pledge to make the city safer.
