Manchester United have increased their offer for Ander Onana, but remain short of Inter Milan’s valuation of the goalkeeper.
United remains in negotiations with InterMilan over apotential deal foe the Cameroon international, who is Erik ten Haf’s first choice option to replace David de Gea as the club’s number one next season.
Speaking about Onana, Ince told Betway: "First and foremost, he's a fantastic keeper. He's young, he's got loads of potential, he's great with his feet.
"A lot depends on what the situation is with David De Gea. Obviously, his contract is finished and there's ongoing talks. I presume that De Gea will be saying, 'Listen, if I'm going to sign then I need to be the No. 1'.
"But if they're going to cut his wages and he doesn't agree to terms, I think Onana will be the next one to come in.
"The ball's in De Gea's court. He knows he's going to have to take a reduction in his wages, and if he does that, I can see him back between the sticks come the start of the season."
"As of today, the proposals are not at the level we expected," he said. "In this moment, he's our goalkeeper and Andre is key player for us - we'd like to keep him, then we'll see what happens. We wait for him on 13 July for pre-season."
Onana has an xTV of €40.1m per FootballTransfers' in-house algorithm, so United might feel that their opening bid wasn't unreasonable, but they also need to keep their purse strings tight before selling players this summer.
United are therefore looking at the goalkeeper market, with Onana emerging as the preferred option. Chelsea have also previously held an interest in the former Cameroon international.
Should a deal proceed, Nottingham Forest are set to get the go ahead to bid for Dean Henderson, with the uncertainty over United’s goalkeepers having so far paused progress on that transfer.
Onana is regarded as one of Europe’s best goalkeepers in possession and Ten Hag is keen to reunite with a player who won three Eredivisie titles under his management at Ajax.
