A shooting at a campground near Quincy, WA venue Gorge Amphitheater, where EDM festival Beyond Wonderland was happening, left two dead and three injured, ABC and NBC report. Kyle Foreman, a public information officer with the Grant County Sheriff's Office, said in a news conference that officers responded to "reports of shots fired into the crowd" at 8:23 PM. "The shooter then walked away from where the incident happened," Foreman continued, adding that when police arrived, "he continued to randomly shoot into the crowd and the suspect was eventually taken into custody.”
The suspected shooter was one of the three injured people, and police say their motive is not currently known. They also didn't give details on the names or ages of the victims.
A public alert had advised people that there was an active shooter in the area and to “run, hide or fight,” but Foreman said there was no effort to evacuate the festival. The festival continued following the shooting and did not end until early Sunday morning, Foreman said.
“He was, again, on the periphery of the property. Law enforcement had eyes on him, and they were able to keep him in that area. He wasn’t moving toward the venue,” Foreman said.
The suspect was hospitalized for his injuries, but no further details were immediately released. Details on the victims would be released at a later time, Foreman said.
The second day of the two-day festival, meant to begin Sunday afternoon, has been canceled. A statement posted to the Beyond Wonderland social Media accounts say”We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the local authorities and staff who acted quickly to manage the situation. Our heartfelt thoughts and condolences go out to the family, friends and all those affected by the tragic event.”
Beyond Wonderland is one of Insomniac Event’s longstanding flagship festival brands and is hosted annually at the Gorge, along with other Locations.
Sunday’s lineup was meant to feature Marshmello,Afrojack, Subtronics and other electronic artists
The Gorge Amphitheatre was hosting a two-day music festival called Beyond Wonderland at the time, and the campgrounds were located several hundred yards from the venue, Foreman said.
Authorities have not provided details on the suspect, victims, the weapon used or the motive.
