President Biden is considering nominating Federal Reserve Governor Philip Jefferson for the role of Fed vice chair and World Bank director Adriana Kugler for a spot on the U.S. central bank’s board of governors, according to the Wall Street Journal and New York Times. Jefferson would take the spot last held by former Fed Vice Chair Lael Brainard, who moved to the White House in February to head up the National Economic Council, which spearheads the president’s economic agenda. Brainard’s departure left a vacancy on the Fed’s board of governors, comprising seven members who are nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate.
