Brent crude was down $2.35, or 2.8%, to $81.36 per barrel as of 07:30 GMT. Earlier in the day, the global benchmark had reached $81.16, its lowest level since January 11. The US crude benchmark, West Texas Intermediate (WTI), had slumped by $2.23, or 2.9%, to $74.05 per barrel, its weakest mark since January 6.
