It would be hard to find anyone to disagree with the proposition that community-based crisis stabilization centers are the appropriate place for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. Such centers can do what the current default destinations, which are jail cells or emergency rooms, cannot. Intensive crisis stabilization centers offer short-term residential treatment that provides immediate care to individuals experiencing a mental health or substance use disorder crisis.
