With today’s forecast of close to 100 degrees, the hottest yet in this six-day long heatwave, New York City’s free-to-all public beaches and swimming pools will be in high demand to provide some wet relief. But the lifeguard shortage, a national problem, is making it very challenging for Mayor Adams and Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue to keep the beaches and pools open.
