The day Archana Devi, 45, was brought to the Lala Lajpat Rai Medical College in Meerut — with severe Covid symptoms, barely able to breathe — India had recorded what was then the world’s highest single-day Covid count of over 3 lakh. That was April 21. Archana’s condition was deteriorating and her family had all but given up.
