Shubman Gill, however, was having none of it and made sure that the mind games played by Brydon Carse failed at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
Carse has been bowling quite well in the ongoing match against the Indian team. The pacer has been bowling tight lines and lengths and has made the batters work really hard for the runs.
On the third ball of the over, Carse bowled a rip-roaring short ball to Karun Nair, who wasn't committed to the front foot, and only managed to edge the delivery to Harry Brook at second slip.
As Carse was about to bowl the fourth ball of the over to Gill, he made some changes to his action during his run-up and signalled to his left as he stretched his left hand.
Brydon Carse acted puzzled and gestured like he didn't understand why Gill pulled out. Then, on the next ball, Carse came up with another cheeky move as he stuck his tongue out while running in to the ball and hit Gill on the pads. England went on to use DRS after the on-field umpire didn't raise his finger, and on the ultra-edge, a big inside edge was detected.

— OneCricket (@OneCricketApp) July 2, 2025That ball bounced on Nair and he couldn’t get his hands high enough - Dinesh Karthik
"That ball bounced on Nair and he couldn’t get his hands high enough. Carse strikes at a great time for England, who will be very happy."
"I think they will be pretty happy but disappointed with the timing of Nair's dismissal, shortly before lunch. That's when you need to be concentrating hard - but there was very little Nair could do as the ball bounced from a length.
"Jaiswal batted beautifully - the mix of caution and aggression. He played to his off-side strengths and put anything loose away."
