Authorities have identified the man killed last weekend when his motorcycle collided with the side of a Chula Vista police cruiser.
Simon Robledo, 28, of Chula Vista suffered “severe injuries” in Friday’s wreck, according to Chula Vista police, and died at a local hospital.
“On behalf of the Chula Vista Police Department, Chief Roxana Kennedy offers her deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Robledo,” the agency said in a news release. “Although the investigation is still in its early stages and many answers will not be available for considerable time, the loss of life is never taken lightly by Chief Kennedy or her department.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to support Robledo’s family.
Due to the seriousness of the incident, department officials said, and the involvement of a Chula Vista officer, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) was asked to lead the investigation.
At approximately 6:14 p.m. Friday, the officer, who was responding to a radio call, turned at Olympic Parkway and Windingwalk Street, police said.
The officer was proceeding left onto southbound Windingwalk from the westbound lanes of the parkway. The motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on Olympic Parkway prior to the collision.
The officer was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
