NEWARK, N.Y. – Nearly one year after Wilson Augustave Jr. drowned in the Erie Canal, his peers honored him at what would have been his high school graduation on Friday.

A family friend shared pictures of the graduation ceremony at Newark High School. They said Wilson’s classmates decorated a chair in his honor to have him alongside them during their big moment.

The event’s speaker read out Wilson’s name alongside his peers, the friend said.
