Rooney has been away from the dugout since leaving Plymouth on New Year’s Eve.

The 39-year-old was sacked after just seven months in charge having won just five of his 25 matches across all competitions.

Following his departure, he returned to punditry with Amazon Prime Video.

Rooney joined the broadcaster’s coverage of the Champions League knockout stage.

However, he has continued to be linked with a return to management at clubs including Cambridge United and Blackburn.

After appearing in Soccer Aid on Sunday, Rooney clarified his next career move.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he was asked about his managerial career and punditry duties.

The former England captain explained: “Obviously just doing some TV work at the minute, so that’s what I’m doing.

“I’m enjoying it. So, that’s where I’ll be.”

Rooney had been speaking on the pitch at Old Trafford following this year’s charity fixture for UNICEF.

He rolled back the years by opening the scoring for the England XI in front of the Stretford End.

The hosts, who were also coached by Rooney ahead of the match, found themselves both 3-0 and 4-1 up against the World XI.

However, Rooney’s former United team-mate Carlos Tevez came off the bench to turn the match around.

The Argentinian scored four goals to inspire the World XI to a dramatic 5-4 victory.

Reflecting on the result, Rooney admitted: “We knew it was always going to be a tough game.

“They had some really good players in the team. But I thought it was a good game for everyone who came to watch.
