2:30 Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes – 1m (Str)

The top four the who battled out the finish in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes at Newbury will face off again, but it can pay to side with the third-place finisher, ROSALLION.

Last season’s Irish 2000 Guineas and St James’s Palace winner made his return to the track after 333 days off the track in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury. He ran a race full of promise and showed up as if he would take a significant step forward in fitness for the run. Rosallion is two from two at Ascot, and given that he now has race fitness on his side, the son of Blue Point can gain his revenge here.

Away from the top four in the market, Sardinian Warrior looks set to put in a career best. Having made a winning return this season, the John & Thady Gosden-trained colt just ran out of steam in the Group 1 Prix d’Ispahan, finding only the odds-on favourite too good in the end. He looks set for a place, at the very least.

ROSALLION

Trainer: Richard Hannon Jockey: Sean Levey  Form: /211-3 Age: 4Weight: 9st 2lb

Bet on ROSALLION to win the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes at 11/4 with Betfred

3:05 Group 2 Coventry Stakes – 6f

In a race that has thrown up an 80/1 and 150/1 winner in the past five years, the Coventry Stakes is a minefield. Only three of the 21 runners have had more than three runs in their career, so the term ‘unexposed’ will be the go-to word here.

But with that said, the runner who caught my eye on his debut is WARSAW. This Aidan O’Brien runner was sent off 18/1 to make a winning debut at Navan, so the son of Wootton Bassett must not have been showing much in his work at home. However, he won like a horse that has a bright career ahead of him.

He may not be the pick of Ryan Moore, but there is no telling how much he will improve for that run. If he is saving his best for the track, he could surpass anything that his master trainer thinks he can achieve.

WARSAW

Trainer: Aidan O’Brien Jockey: Wayne Lordan Form: 1 Age: 2 Weight: 9st 3lb

Bet on WARSAW to win the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at 13/2 with Ladbrokes

3:40 Group 1 King Charles Stakes – 5f

Asfoora travels from the land down under to try to retain the crown that she bravely won last season. She will need to fend off her old foe, Regional, once again and deal with Believing, who comes here after his breakthrough Group 1 win.

Understandably, the three mentioned are at the top of the betting, but Ed Walkers MGHEERA is a sprinting mare on the rapid improve. She may have raced 20 times already in her career, but she is not long in training with Ed Walker and is unbeaten in her two starts since arriving in the UK.

The latest of those two wins for new connections demonstrated that the stiff Ascot 5f could be right up her street. She’s a strong stayer at this tip, and not many come in here in the form that Mgheera has shown. A big run looks to be on the cards.

MGHEERA

Trainer: Ed Walker Jockey: William Buick Form: 506-11 Age: 5 Weight: 9st 4lb

Bet on MGHEERA to win the Group 1 King Charles III Stakes at 8/1 with talkSPORT BET

4:20 Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes – 1m (Rnd)

The standout race on day one of Royal Ascot brings the UK, Irish, and French 2000 Guineas winners together for a clash for the ages. Henri Matisse dug deep to hold off the challenge of Jonquil at Longchamp, but he faces two top-class colts here.

Ruling Court got the better of Field Of Gold in the Newmarket Classic, but Juddmonte-owned runner-up was left with a lot to do to try to run down Ruling Court. However, roles may be reversed here. Field Of Gold put the Newmarket demons to rest when running away with the Irish 2000 Guineas under the newly appointed Juddmonte retained jockey, Colin Keane, while Ruling Court was a late withdrawal from the Derby. Granted, there are no hard luck stories this time around, Field Of Gold should gain his revenge.

FIELD OF GOLD

Trainer: John & Thady Gosden Jockey: Colin Keane Form: 14-121 Age: 3  Weight: 9st 2lb

Bet on FIELD OF GOLD to win the Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes at 4/5 with BetVictor

5:00 Ascot Stakes – 2m4f

Races that are run over this trip on the flat are races in which I concentrate on runners trained by National Hunt trainers. A few fit the bill here, and Easy India Dock will sit at the top of many punters’ lists after his strong staying win in the Chester Cup.

He is not easily overlooked, but the recently acquired Royal runner to the UK and Irish champion national hunt trainer looks open to considerable improvement. REACHING HIGH made his debut for Willie Mullins at Leopardstown over 1m4f, and he went from looking as if he was not going to get involved in the finish to being beaten a short head.

Being out of Gold Cup winner Estimate, his pedigree screams stayer. This extreme trip will be the making of him, and Royal Ascot could be witness to yet another Royal winner.

REACHING HIGH

Trainer: Willie Mullins Jockey: Ryan Moore Form: 3210-2 Age: 4 Weight: 9st 5lb

Bet on REACHING HIGH to win the Ascot Stakes at 10/3 with Sky Bet

5:35 Listed Wolferton Stakes – 1m2f

A trappy Listed contest and not many can be ruled out. Enfjarr finished behind Military Order when they clashed in the Brigadier Gerard, but the Military Order is twice the price of the Roger Varian runner here. Military Order drifted drastically in the minutes leading up to the off at Sandown, so someone knew more than others about the form that he was in.

With that, I find it hard to trust him, even given his clear talent. Haatem, who was placed in the UK and Irish Guineas and a winner at last year’s Royal Ascot, is interesting in the class drop, but the one who seems to have come in here under the radar is SONS AND LOVERS. The Joseph O’Brien runner was sent off at big odds for his first two starts for Joseph O’Brien when he was third behind Galen and the now Group 1 winner, Jan Brueghel.

He followed that with a fourth in the Group 2 Morresbridge Stakes, where he found Trustyourinstinct (won on his start), White Birch, and Los Angeles too good. He was only three lengths behind them that day, and now, with his sights lowered and Ryan Moore taking the ride, Son And Lovers could prove a class above his rivals here

SONS AND LOVERS

Trainer: Joseph O’Brien Jockey: Ryan Moore Form: 284-34 Age: 4 Weight: 9st 5lb

Bet on SONS AND LOVERS to win the Listed Wolferton Stakes at 9/1 with Ladbrokes

6:10 Copper House Stakes – 1m6f

French Master has been all the rage for this in the lead-up to Royal Ascot, but he has shortened to odds where the value in his odds have gone in a race like this. Willie Mullins has won the last two renewals of the Copper House and has winning hurdler Charlus representing him this year. However, the underfoot conditions may be on the quick side for him to be seen at his best.

That leads me to CABALLO DE MAR, who has risen through the grades in an impressive fashion this season. He won six of his last seven races, with his only defeat coming when second in the Chester Cup to East India Dock. He showed no ill effects from his run at Chester when staying on strong to win at Haydock last month.

Since then, Caballo De Mar has been hit with a 4lb raise but given that there are no signs of his improvement coming to a halt, Caballo De Mar can record yet another win, but this time on the grandest stage of them all. My Mate Mozzie is 1lb higher than when he was third in last year’s renewal, and with conditions in his favour, he looks like an obvious place contender.

CABALLO DE MAR

Trainer: George Scott  Jockey: Callum Shepherd Form: -11121 Age: 4 Weight: 9st 4lb

Bet on CABALLO DE MAR to win the Copper House Stakes at 6/1 with talkSPORT BET
