Behind-the-scenes footage shows lengths Viktor Hovland is going to to claim US Open glory ...Middle East

Viktor Hovland has been grinding away all week at Oakmont and he hopes his hard work will bring US Open glory this evening.

Hovland heads into Sunday’s final round in Pennsylvania in fourth on the leaderboard, three shots behind overnight leader Sam Burns.

Hovland was the last man on the range on Saturday night

After bogeying two of his first three holes on Saturday, the Norwegian star battled back to secure a level par round and make sure he’s right in contention for the US Open title today.

Despite yet another gruelling round at the incredibly tough Oakmont, Hovland was seen putting in the work on the range after his long day’s work.

The 27-year-old was the last man on the practice facility as his rivals had turned in for the night.

With his caddie Shay Knight and his coaches watching on, Hovland was seen smashing balls as the sun set in Pittsburgh.

The Ryder Cup star’s driving was poor on Saturday and he’ll hope his hard work pays off heading down the stretch today.

Asked about some of his weak shots before he hit the range, Hovland said: “I just have to figure that out, but at the end of the day, to have the chance to win tomorrow is just absolutely amazing.

“I’m really proud of the way I fought back and I’m still in the thick of this.

“I’m really happy to have a chance to win a major championship. It’s amazing and I’m buzzing for that, so I just have to keep grinding and hopefully we’ll get it done.

“It was obviously not the ideal start today but I knew my game was good, so if I could get the ball in play I could rely on my irons and make some putts.”

He added: “I feel like I’ve matured a lot more, just seen a lot more stuff happening.

“I know kind of what it takes to win a major championship, so I know the shots to try to hit and what shots not to try to hit.

“I feel like I’m way better equipped, just need to get that driver sorted, and I’ve got the game to do it.

“So it’s like I’m super proud that I’m that close, but it’s frustrating that the driver is still just holding me back a little bit.”

Hovland’s hard work is also not just about trying to win tournaments, it’s also about finding satisfaction in seeing his efforts pay off.

He said: “Sure, we would all like to win, that’s why we practice so hard. But there’s also like a deep passion in me that I want to hit the shots.

“I want to stand up on the tee and hit the shots that I’m envisioning. When the ball’s not doing that, it bothers me.”

Hovland has eleven career victories to date, including big wins at Memorial, the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship.

While he also claimed Ryder Cup and FedexCup glory in 2023, a major win would eclipse everything he’s done so far.

Asked about his gameplan for Sunday, Hovland said: “Yeah, another boring answer. I don’t think this is a course where you can kind of get too crazy.

“You have to play smart, play for middle of the greens and give yourself a lot of looks and hopefully get that putter hot.”

Hovland is in the penultimate group for Sunday’s final round and will tee off alongside JJ Spaun at 7:04pm UK time.

The leading group of Burns and Adam Scott will then get underway at 7:15pm.
